Asbestos Testing

Why do you need Asbestos Testing?

  • Testing is the only way to know if a product contains asbestos.
  • Samples are required to be tested by a certified asbestos testing facility.
  • Taking samples yourself is not recommended.
  • It is recommended that a professional be used when removing a sample of material that could contain asbestos.
  • When disturbed, asbestos material may release asbestos fibers which can be inhaled into the lungs. The fibers can remain there for a long time, increasing the risk of disease.
  • Asbestos material that would crumble easily when handled or drilled, sawed, scraped, or sanded is more likely to create a health hazard.
  • The use of asbestos in home building products began around 1930 and was not completely banned in the United States until 1978.
  • Home building products that asbestos was commonly used in include roofing, siding, insulation, flooring, construction adhesives, and furnace and boiler installation materials.
  • You cannot tell whether a material contains asbestos by looking at it, unless it is labeled.
